I’m from California..I’d go insane in weather like that..They would probably find me glued to a steel pole the following spring..that’s about how much I know about surviving in cold weather.
I just got my first diesel motor. 6.9 ford. The glow plugs are shot, so I give it a little shot of start fluid. My understanding is the main problem with ether is the glow plugs igniting it out of time and blowing the head/piston etc. So no glow plugs, no problem other than cylinder wash, so I keep the shot small. Also I hear you can use wd40 which is less destructive to the cylinders and less explosive so maybe even OK with glow plugs. Would welcome reply comment on this. thanks for the vid.
The jcb 3ciii of roughly the same era is the same, in that it has no glow plugs etc. It does however have a “start pilot” pot on the dash and a plunger, you fill the pot with ether, and press the plunger once to inject a exact amount of ether to fire it up when very cold.
I generally just give it a squirt from the aerosol the same as you though as Ive never bothered fixing the plunger mech
im just a backyard mechanic mainly on just my trucks and cars nothing heavy duty, but i think the altenator could be weak it should be between 13-15 volts 14 is the avg.
starts better than any of his cars does – Oh, while I’m on this subject, i need to ask (and any answer from any1 is welcome). i have a ‘75 Case 850 4-n-1 bucket crawler, the battery can sit for months and be strong & after driving around for a few hrs, the battery seems nearly dead. the alt puts out 12-13 Amps, belts don’t slip, connections seem ok, what else could it be?
How come you always say cold start
Should have been a cat, because that little guy said so in the beginning of the clip.
I love the 580 case. I ran a 580C extendahoe. It was very smooth and had 4×4. Were I to buy a hoe it is the one I would want.
very good!!!
Is it good at starting without ether.

here in MN we can get up to -50 at times and my uncles 58 oliver super 88 will run with a squirt of ether

It’s basically all used for hydraulics…not for going fast.

good runner right there, a lot like my uncle’s 68 Ford backhoe, sounds like a similar engine as well
